Over the past several years, we have seen exponential growth in Cybersecurity Competitions at the professional, college, high school, and middle school levels.n These competitions include CyberLympics, National Cyber League, Collegiate Cyber Security Competition, and CyberPatriot.
Competitions create career awareness, emphasize critical thinking and problem solving. Career development-focused competitions may be geared to measure an individual’s competency in a body of knowledge and performances required to complete professional tasks. Since January Dan has also hosted a weekly sports style show on YouTube on cybersecurity competitions. The YouTube channel is cyberfed and website is http://cyberfed.org. Dan made a documentary last year on high school cybersecurity competitions in called Something Like A Sport. The YouTube link is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lL4etNXwY9o. Young people with a passion for hacking and hands-on cybersecurity in a constructive way need need stories and role models as much as kids playing sports look up to professional athletes. This presentation shows how professional organizations, companies, schools and other stakeholders can become involved in cybersecurity competitions, and why investment and participation in cybersecurity competitions is changing the diversity, quantity and quality of talent in the cybersecurity field.
