ISACA LA offers a "Career Night" each October and this time we have two special workshops. Both the pre-meeting and dinner workshops will be moderated by Thomas Phelps IV, Laserfiche CIO & Vice President of LF Consulting, and Sean Gil, UC Riverside Career Center Director. Both sessions are focused on career development and geared towards professionals and students.

Behavioral Interviewing Workshop

Do you want to sound confident or have your voice quiver with fear and trepidation when you meet your job interviewer?
Do you know what qualities companies are looking for when interviewing candidates?
Are you afraid of being asked those tough behavioral interview questions and stuttering out an answer that makes no sense?
Attend our annual ISACA Career Night if you want to learn the secrets behind some of the behavioral interview questions that you may likely be asked in your job interview. Whether you’re a student interviewing for a full-time position or a mid-level manager who is out on the job market for the first time in years, this workshop will help you gain confidence in the interviewing process.

Thomas Phelps IV joined Laserfiche in May 2014 as Chief Corporate Strategist and CIO. Based in Long Beach, CA, with global headquarters in Hong Kong and offices in Shanghai, Toronto, Mexico, London, Washington, D.C., and Fort Lauderdale, FL, Laserfiche uses its Run Smarter® philosophy to create simple and elegant enterprise content management (ECM) solutions. Since 1987, more than 34,000 organizations worldwide—including federal, state and local government agencies and Fortune 1000 companies—have used Laserfiche® software to streamline document, records and business process management.
Currently, Thomas serves as the CIO and Vice President of LF Consulting. As a senior executive and corporate officer, Thomas leads the marketing and IT organizations, corporate strategy, direct sales and professional services businesses. Previously, Thomas was a Director in PwC’s Security, Privacy & Risk national practice focusing on Entertainment, Media and Communications clients. He led multi-million dollar projects for C-level executives at Fortune 500 companies.

Thomas is a Past-President and on the Board of Directors for ISACA Los Angeles. He also serves as the President of Ascend Los Angeles Metro, a Pan-Asian leadership organization (www.ascendleadership.org). Thomas is a frequent speaker at ISACA events and at the Ascend National Conventions, and a professional mentor on diversity and inclusion topics. Thomas has co-authored books and white papers. In addition, he has instructed the CISA Review Course for over 7 years.

Sean Gil became the Director, Career Center at the University of California at Riverside on May 1st, 2012. Previously Sean served at the Cal State Fullerton Career Center as Associate Director from 2007 – 2012. He was Associate Director of the MBA Career Center at UC Irvine from 2002 – 2007. Prior to this, Sean was a Partner at the Strategic Executive Search (SES) Group, a global retained executive search firm, based in Taipei, Taiwan, from 1998 – 2002.

Sean began his career, in 1991, at the global investment bank of Communications Equity Associates (CEA), providing corporate investment banking services out of their Hong Kong office

If you need help brushing up your resume and cover letter, our annual Resume Writing Workshop is just the thing for you. This session will provide a highly-interactive and lively workshop where Thomas Phelps IV, a former PwC Recruiting Champion and now a Laserfiche corporate executive, will share with you his secrets for how he helped many people get their resume noticed and find good jobs. Joining Thomas is Sean Gil, Director of the UC Riverside Career Center. Sean will provide an exceptional resume writing tips booklet that will give you insights into the top power words to use in a resume.

This year we’re doing something different. Bring your resume and if you’re comfortable sharing it with others in the audience, we will edit it in real-time on the main projector. Please send your resumes in advance by Friday, October 10, to [email protected] if you want to participate and have your resume edited in the workshop. Get ready to stand out and get noticed!

There is also an IT Audit Directors’ Forum pre-meeting from 4-5:30—but it is by invitation only. If you are an IT Audit Directors’ Forum member, do not register at this time—you will receive a separate invitation shortly.
