This presentation will offer a comprehensive overview of the current status and future directions of AI regulation and governance, and it will explain the concept of responsible, ethical AI. We will delve deeply into the privacy challenges associated with AI and discuss the benefits of privacy-preserving machine learning techniques. The session will also provide an overview of AI/ML security frameworks and taxonomies, emphasizing the critical role of data governance and security as foundational elements for effective AI governance and management. Additionally, we will explore in detail the new ISO/IEC 42001 standard for an AI Management System, which aligns with the ISO/IEC 27001 standard for Information Security Management Systems.

SPEAKERS

Katharina Koerner

Katharina Koerner is a multifaceted professional, bringing together a rich blend of skills encompassing senior management, legal acumen, and technical proficiency. Based in Silicon Valley since 2020, she has focused her career on tech policy, privacy, security, AI regulation, and the operationalization of trustworthy AI. Katharina is actively engaged with the Tech Diplomacy Network in Silicon Valley, founded to promote collaboration and dialogue between diplomats, civil society, and the tech industry. In her role as Corporate Development Manager at a forward-thinking seed-stage startup dedicated to AI strategy and governance, Katharina spearheads strategic initiatives to drive innovation and foster growth.

Katharina holds a PhD in EU Law, a JD in Law, and various certifications in information security, privacy, privacy engineering, and ML. Her career includes serving as the CEO of an international education group for 5 years and 10 years in the Austrian public service. At the International Association for Privacy Professionals (IAPP), she served as a Principal Researcher – Technology, focusing on privacy engineering, technology regulation, and AI research.
